Privacy
Last updated · 21 July 2026The short version
We collect what we need to make Bimi work — your Google account identity, who's in your household, what your cook makes, what your family votes for, what's in your kitchen. We don't sell any of it. We don't share it with advertisers. You can delete your member account or ask us to erase household-level data.
What we collect
- Your Google account identifier, name, and verified email, used to sign you in and keep your Bimi household attached to your account. Google does not share your password with Bimi.
- A phone or WhatsApp number only when you enter one for household, cook, invite, or WhatsApp coordination features. The current app uses Google sign-in; a legacy SMS sign-in path may temporarily process a number during rollback or assisted testing.
- Household details you enter — names, dietary preferences and allergies, who pays for groceries, the cook's name and WhatsApp number.
- What your household votes for, what gets cooked, what gets rated. We use this to make next week's suggestions feel like yours and not a generic recipe blog.
- Inventory you log, expenses you split, the messages your cook leaves you.
- When you use Swiggy through Bimi, we retain the cart and order identifiers, delivery coordinates, and item, quote, checkout, and status snapshots needed to stage, place, track, and reconcile the order.
- Order-history learning is separate from connecting Swiggy and stays off until you switch it on. With permission, Bimi imports and retains item names and order times only; Swiggy price, quantity, and expiry fields are not retained.
- Crash diagnostics if the app misbehaves. We redact common phone and email patterns plus authentication headers before sending them; a pseudonymous account ID may remain so we can connect repeated failures.
- If you join the waitlist on this site, we also store the name and email you submit there, for the purpose of reaching out when a pilot slot opens.
What we don't do
- We don't sell your data — not now, not ever.
- We don't run third-party advertising trackers inside the app.
- We never read your contacts in the background. When you tap "Pick from contacts" to add your cook's number, we read only the entry you choose — nothing else — and store just that number.
Health and dietary data
Dietary preferences and allergies you enter are used exclusively to filter meal suggestions and flag incompatible recipes. This data is never shared outside your household or used for profiling.
WhatsApp integration
When you message your cook, we hand off to WhatsApp using the number you've saved. WhatsApp's own privacy terms apply to that conversation. We store your cook's number and cook-brief messages so Bimi can send reminders and follow-ups on your behalf — nothing else.
Who sees your data
- Other people in your household, when you invite them. That's the point.
- When you place an order through Bimi, the selected cart, delivery address, and checkout details are sent to Swiggy Instamart to fulfil it. Swiggy's own privacy terms apply to its service.
- If we add a feature that shares data with a new partner, we'll tell you before turning it on.
Where it lives
Your data sits on servers we run, in India. It travels there over an encrypted connection. Backups are encrypted too.
How long we keep it
We keep household data while the shared household is active, and order metadata while needed to operate, support, or reconcile an order and meet legal obligations. Turning off Swiggy order-history learning deletes the imported item names and order times and resets suggestions learned from them. Deleting one member account does not delete data shared with other household members.
Children
Bimi is meant for adults running a household. If you're under 18, please ask a parent or guardian before using it.
Your choices
- You can edit or delete any household member, cook, or piece of inventory you added — directly from the app.
- You can turn off any notification under Settings → Notifications.
- You can turn off order-history learning under Settings → Swiggy. This withdraws permission, deletes imported Swiggy history, and resets suggestions learned from it, even if Swiggy is disconnected.
- You can delete your member account from Settings → Account → Delete account. In a shared household, household data may remain available to the other members.
- To request access, correction, or deletion of household-level data, write to founders@trybimi.in.
Your rights under DPDPA
Under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, you can ask us to show you what we have on you, correct it, or delete it. Write to founders@trybimi.in and we'll respond within 30 days.
When this changes
If we update this policy in a way that materially affects what we collect or how we share it, we'll let you know inside the app the next time you open it. Small wording fixes won't trigger a notice.
